Dinner Club gathering held on February 19, 2000
First Club Gathering of the New Millenium Gourmet Dinner Club gathering held on February 19, 2000 The gathering was held at Pam and Joe Polo's house and the theme was Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) This dinner was a bit different from our traditional gatherings. Pam had everyone bring appetizers and true to the theme that was picked it was a big party. In attendance were Pam and Joe, Dan and Pat, Bob and Sally, Mike and Maureen, and our guests were Tony and Dolly who live next door to Pam and Joe. Kathy and Jack could not be with us because of another commitment. After everyone arrived and we all grabbed a drink or beverage of choice, we were served our first appetizer. We were treated to a classic Louisiana appetizer. Cajun Crawfish brought by Dan and Pat. These little "Lobster" looking things were quite tasty and spicy enough to make the beers go down quickly. Next Sally brought out some Louisiana Tugboats, which were Potato Skins stuffed with Cheddar Cheese and Bacon, or Homemade Salsa and Cheese, or Smoked Ham and Swiss Cheese. These were topped with Sour Cream and Green Onions. Next, Mike and Maureen brought out some Oysters Rockefeller. Very tender and delicious oysters on a half shell with creamed spinach, green onion, tomato, mushrooms, red pepper, cheese and bacon. They also made some Potatoes Rockefeller in Potato Skins with everything but the oysters. Then, as if we hadn't already had enough, Pat brought out a platter of deep fried Okra and a Curry Dipping Sauce. Another classic Louisiana, Cajun dish. After all that, we all gathered around Pam' table and enjoyed her homemade Gumbo. Rice, Chicken, and Sausage in a slightly spicy Gumbo Sauce. Along with it, Pam served Corn Muffins and French Bread. Hmm, Hm. A very authentic Louisiana dish that Pam did a terrific job on. Now it was time for some coffee. Joe brought to the table a large selection of after dinner coffee additives and we all had a personalized cup of coffee. Pat brought a cheesecake for dessert and since it was close to Mike's birthday we sang happy birthday and gave him some cards. Happy Birthday Mike. That was about it. A few more drinks and a few more laughs and it was time to go. Thanks Pam and Joe!! -BB-
