Dinner Club gathering held on April 15th, 2000
Second Club Gathering of the Y2K Gourmet Dinner Club gathering held on April 15, 2000 The gathering was held at Sally and Bob Browne's house and the theme was Carribean. Every one from the club was in attendance. Pam and Joe Polo, Pat and Dan VanArtsdalen, Bob and Sally Browne (of course, it was at their house), Mike and Maureen Wert, and Jack and Kathy Tenner. We also had guests. Rink and Annette Rinker came as our guest couple and since they know everyone in the club, they fit right in. We started out with some drinks. Joe and Rink both brought samplings of their own home made wines, while Bob, Mike, and Dan drank Cabo Wabo Tequila with some beer chasers. So between the wines, beer and tequila everyone was covered. The Party was On! Appetizers were served to us by Pam, who brought some delicious Guacamole that we ate with some red corn chips. She also served a Seviche Dish made with Scallops. She definitely had a Caribbean thing going. We all took seats at the table and Pat served us a delightful Marinated Shrimp Salad consisting of fresh greens dressed with a home made spicey dressing loaded with tastey shrimp. Next we had soup that Kathy made which was a Light Cream Of Spinach soup that was just perfect with our meal. Then we put out the entree and side dish. The entree was Bob and Sally's version of Jamaican Jerk Chicken. A Classic Caribbean dish from the Island of Jamaica. It was rather spicy but everyone seemed to handle it's fiery taste with out any problems. Lots of fresh jalapeño peppers gives this dish it's zip. The side dish, which complimented the Chicken very well, was brought by Maureen and Mike Wert. It was a dish made of Fresh Spinach, Red Peppers, and Feta Cheese. Served cold it was an excellent side dish to the Spicy Chicken. After all that, it was time for dessert. Along with the traditional coffee and additives, Our guests treated us to a very Caribbean dessert of Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Bananas baked with butter and sugar and then coated with toasted coconut. Damn, it was GOOD!! After just sitting for a while Sally whipped out a few games and some of us played Fargle, Some played Pente, and some just talked. People started leaving about midnight and the last people left around 2 or so. It was an excellent night and all the food was great. It was actually a rather healthy feast.
